Accreditation

Accreditation And Online Colleges and Universities

Don't spend a lot of time and effort on an online education if it is just going to be useless. If the online school is not accredited, your degree will be, beyond a doubt, useless.

Accreditation is the most important characteristic of any online university or college. Unfortunately, there are phony online schools out there that will put you through the paces - then take your money and run. You have probably heard of some Web sites at which you can actually by a degree! Unfortunately, colleges andl universities that are not accredited are a more or less like those phony diploma mills. Typically, you'll still do the work, and complete tests, only to find out that your diploma is a worthless piece of paper.

Check out any university's accredited status early in your selection process. Know all about the school before you actually apply, because you may have to send a fee or deposit with the application. Accredited status is normally right on the university homepage and the "about us" page that any university that operates online should have. Many colleges and university Web sites have a page devoted just to their accreditations and status. It should be easy to find. If none are displayed than the likelihood is that they do not have accredited status to begin with. If there is no accreditation at all on the online college Web site then walk away and start researching other schools with your chosen discipline.

Any seal of accreditation can be easily investigated, via a simple Google search, to ensure that it is genuine. It is important that you trace it back to who has actually set it up, when it was established and whether or not it is affiliated with another academic body or not. For example, the University of Phoenix, prominently displays its accreditation on the Web site. If you wee to research the source of accreditation, you would find that the University of Phoenix is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. You can then obtain additional information at the North Central Association Web site, www.ncahlc.org. This should give you peace of mind to know that you will not be wasting your time, effort and money if you were to choose to attend this online university instead of another.

Accreditation means so much. For the average individual who does choose to earn an online degree it could definitely mean the difference between a bright future and a bitter one just because you did not take the time to thoroughly check out the university's status.

Never choose a school that has a fake accreditation, selling degrees, because employers could easily dig up that information and it could prevent you from getting the job that you have always wanted, or even losing a good job. Accreditation is everything in the world of education, especially online education. Without it, all you have is a worthless piece of paper.
